FERPA & Authorization to Release

Privacy policy image

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) sets out requirements that are designed to protect the privacy of students and their parents of record. Federal regulations prohibit the disclosure of a student's financial information to anyone other than the student without the student's written permission except to a campus representative, or other designated officials. The Seawolf Service Center office will only disclose information as allowed by FERPA. We will not disclose a student's information to a parent, a spouse of the student, or any other person unless allowed by FERPA or designated in writing by the student. Students may authorize the release of Student Account Information and/or the 1098-T tax form by completing the Authorization to Release Page.  Student Account Information authorizes the release of information such as charges, payments, account balance, past due collections activity, financial aid that has been applied or has been disbursed and/or data on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as it pertains to eligibility, required and outstanding financial aid documents, financial aid awards, and current enrollment status (in relation to determining full-time, part-time, or withdrawal fee calculations).  1098-T tax form authorizes the release of the IRS 1098-T tax form.

How To:

To authorize disclosure to specific individuals, including parents, guardians and guests, students must complete the Authorization to Release information function in MySSU. The instructions for this functionality are found on the Registrar's website at the Using the Authorization to Release Page.
